Guitar’sCool
Individual Guitar Lessons and Music Tuition by experienced professional muso/teacher.
Ged trained, qualified and worked as a teacher before he became a pro-musician. He then became a full-time audio engineer and record producer and went on to work in the music and sound equipment (wholesale and retail management) field. He has been teaching music for many years and is keen to pass on the knowledge and skills he has compiled during his career in the music industry.
Guitar - acoustic and electric and bass
All styles of guitar are taught depending on the student's musical preferences. While standard tunes are used to get started, different genres and styles develop from there. We use ultimate guitar to enable preferred repertoire selection.
-
Acoustic Guitar styles include:
- sing-along chordal style - playing chords to accompany party songs.
- folk style - incorporating chords with fingerpicking using tabulature.
- classical - playing nylon string guitar and reading formal notation.
-
Electric Guitar
- rock, pop, country, or jazz - rhythm and lead.
-
Bass Guitar
- accompanying other musicians, playing bass lines to songs.
Music Recording (Cubase)
As an established recording artist, writing, playing, producing and engineering his own work, Ged Carr is well qualified to train newcomers to the fun world of making your own music. He uses Steinberg's Cubase software, and makes the (usually slow and often painful!) entrance to the software nice and easy.

School Syllabus and NCEA Support
NCEA exams become a focus and aim for younger students from as early as 11 years old. The major areas of the formal syllabus are approached gradually and methodically. The objective is to be ready to achieve an easy pass and good grades in the public exams when they come along. The main areas Guitar'sCool can be helpful in are:
- performance - instrumental technique and ability obtained by building a performable repertoire.
- theory - "the rules of music" are learnt firstly incidentally, and then formally.
- composition - the creative side of making music is encouraged early on, then taught practically.
